Thunder Fall at No. 4 Calvin, earn MIAA Playoff Bid

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Trine volleyball team was swept by no. 4 Calvin, but were able to earn an MIAA playoff bid Saturday at Van Noord Arena.

All-Americans Maggie Kamp and Laura Danhoff paced the Knights with 11 kills apiece. Danhoff hit .562, while Kamp contributed at a .308 clip. Senior Taylor Rabel (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) paced the Thunder attack with seven kills. Trine concluded the regular-season 12-15 overall and 8-8 in the MIAA. The Thunder secured the no. 4 seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament with the victory. Calvin improved to 26-3 overall and wrapped up a perfect conference season at 16-0.

Mikayla Carpenter (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) notched 10 digs to wrap up her second-consecutive campaign of leading the MIAA in digs in conference matches. The sophomore averaged 5.05 digs per set in league matches. She moved into 10th all-time in team history with 1,034 carer digs.

Rachel Lubben added eight kills and hit .467 for the Knights. Anna Kamp also notched eight kills and hit .381. Calvin hit .360 overall in the match. The Knights never trailed at any point in either of the three sets.

The two teams will square off Friday, Nov. 6 again at Calvin in the MIAA Semifinals. The Knights swept the season series from the Thunder. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
