Carpenter named to All-MIAA Second Team

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Mikayla Carpenter has been named to the All-MIAA Second Team, the conference announced Friday.

Carpenter (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) led the MIAA in digs per set in conference matches for the second season in a row, averaging a 5.05 clip. The sophomore has earned second team all-conference honors in each of the first two seasons of her collegiate career. Carpenter anchored the defensive efforts of the Thunder from the back row as Trine finished the regular season 12-15 overall and placed fourth in the MIAA with an 8-8 mark in league matches.

In addition to leading the MIAA in digs per set, Carpenter also ranked second in the MIAA in digs per set in all matches. She averaged 4.88 digs per set overall, a mark that ranks sixth in school history and third since the implementation of side-out scoring. Carpenter is the only player in school history to win the conference digs title.

Carpenter is already rocketing up the career ranks all-time at Trine. In just two seasons she has totaled 1,034 digs, a mark that ranks 10th in team history. She is one of 12 players in school history to notch over 1,000-career digs. Carpenter's 4.85 digs per set average ranks third all-time at Trine.

The Thunder face no. 1 seed Calvin in the MIAA Semifinals tonight at 7:45 p.m. A victory would send Trine to the MIAA Championship tomorrow against Hope.
