Thunder Eliminated in MIAA Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Trine volleyball team saw its season come to an end as the Thunder were swept by fourth-ranked Calvin in the MIAA Semifinals Friday night at Van Noord Arena.

The top-seeded Knights earned victories by scores of 25-8, 25-20, 25-7 to advance to the MIAA Championships, where they will face Hope. Calvin hit .398 on the night, with All-American Maggie Kamp's 15 kills leading the way. Senior Taylor Rabel (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) led the Thunder with eight kills on a .316 hitting percentage. She added six digs. Rabel concluded her career with 1,122 kills, third in team history.

Laura Danhoff added nine kills for the Knights, while Rachel Lubben notched eight kills. Keilahna Castillo picked up a match-high 16 digs.

Seniors Rabel, Lauren and Megan Verkamp (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community), Kelbie Titus (Valparaiso, Ind./Washington Township), Bridget Marlow (Trafalgar, Ind./Indian Creek) and Olivia Deck (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) played the final match of their Trine careers.

Lauren Verkamp notched three digs to conclude her career with 1,012 digs, the 12th-most in team history. She also concluded her career with the most service aces (166) of any player in the Division-III era at Trine. Deck's 212 career blocks are ninth in school history.

Trine's Mikayla Carpenter (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) notched nine digs and earned All-MIAA Second Team honors. For more information, CLICK HERE.

The Thunder concluded the season 12-16 overall, having earned an MIAA-playoff berth for the fifth-consecutive season.
