Adrian Gets Past Volleyball, 3-1

ADRIAN, Mich.—The Trine volleyball team was edged out on the road by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Adrian on Wednesday night, 3-1.

The Bulldogs won the first two sets, 25-8 and 25-19, before the Thunder came within one in the third set with a 25-18 victory. Adrian sealed the win in the fourth getting by Trine, 25-21.

In the third set, Trine and Adrian battled back and forth for points before Trine went on a five-point run to go up 22-16. Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) and Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) each had kills to put the Thunder within a point, and Rhylee Beshears added to ace to complete the set point.

Wilder led the Thunder offense with 11 kills and also helped out defensively with 10 digs. Fellow sophomore Morgan Harris (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville) matched her career high nine kills and added three blocks. Scott also notched nine kills for Trine. Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) totaled 27 assists with seven digs. Senior Madison Cook (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) had career high numbers in kills (6) and digs (13) and also added two blocks. Sophomore Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind./Hobart) led the Thunder defense with 19 digs.

Adrian was led by Margo Joubran, who had 16 kills, and Olivia Welch who added 13. Marisa Dion totaled 38 assists. Sydney Martines led the Bulldogs at the net with seven blocks.

The Thunder will open home action this weekend when it plays host to MIAA opponent Calvin on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Trine will also welcome Kalamazoo and Manchester to Hershey Hall on Saturday for a trimatch.
