No. 3 Calvin Edges Out Volleyball

ANGOLA, Ind. — The Trine volleyball team was edged out at home by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent No. 3 Calvin on Friday night, 3-0. 

The Knights took the first three sets, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-14 to win the match. The Thunder's record goes to 0-2 in MIAA play and 0-6 overall. The Knights advance to 2-0 in MIAA play and 5-0 overall.

In the first set, Trine and Calvin battled back and forth having serval ties early on until the Knights pulled away after its last tie with the Thunder at eight points apiece.

Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) led the Thunder's offense with seven kills on a .312 hitting percentage. Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind. / Hobart) took charge of the defensive effort with nine digs. Emma Bowman (Corballis, Ore. / Saint Joseph) contributed to the defense with three block assists.

Jenna Lodewyk had seven kills on a .667 hitting percentage, 22 assists and six digs to lead Calvin to the win. Laura Danhoff led the Knights' offense with nine kills on a .750 hitting percentage. Anna Kamp had nine kills on a .250 hitting percentage. Keilahna Casillo led Calvin's defense with nine digs.

The Thunder will return to action Saturday, Sept. 10, when they welcome Kalamazoo and Manchester to Hershey Hall for a trimatch. Action will start at 11 a.m.
