Volleyball Drops Two at DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind.—The Trine Volleyball team dropped two matches at the DePauw Invitational on Friday evening. The Thunder lost its opening match to Millikin, 3-0, before falling to the host team, DePauw, 3-0.

In its first match of the day, Trine lost in straight sets to Millikin, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-20. The Thunder was led by Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) with six kills and eight digs. Wilder also had three aces. Sophomore Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) added five kills. Sophomore Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind./Hobart) led the Thunder's defensive efforts with 11 digs.

Millikin was led by Erin Syversen with 12 kills, while four other players had six kills each. Emily Mihalkanin and Rose Syversen each had 18 assists. Cassidy Kingery led her team's defense with 13 digs.

Against DePauw, Trine was edged out 25-14, 25-14 and 25-11. Morgan Harris (Crown Point, Ind./Merrilville) and Wilder each had five kills apiece for the Thunder. Beshears notched 13 digs for Trine.

DePauw was led by Suzanne Peters with nine kills while hitting .450. Morgan Stearly and Haley Bitzer each had seven kills apiece. Keegan Kollias led DePauw with 29 assists. Peters and Rachael Landerman led DePauw's defensive efforts with 11 and 12 digs, respectively.

Trine continues action at the DePauw invitational on Saturday. The Thunder faces Rose-Hulman at 1 p.m. before facing Hanover at 3 p.m.
