Trine Volleyball Falls at Home to Albion

Angola, Ind.-– The Trine volleyball team lost in three hard-fought sets to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Albion Saturday at Hershey Hall.

The Britons won the first two sets 25-23 and the third set 25-19.


The Thunder led for much of the first set, leading by as much as six. But Albion came back to take a 21-20 lead, and the two teams went back-and-forth before the Britons scored the last two points. The second set was back-and-forth throughout. There were 10 ties and five lead changes. Albion was in control for most of the third set, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and never relinquishing it, despite a late run by Trine.

Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) had eight kills to pace the Thunder and Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) added six. Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) led the team with 16 assists and Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind./Hobart) contributed 18 digs.

Three players had double-digit kills for the Britons: Taylor Rosenthal (12), Lauren Outwater (11), and Stephanie Thurner (10). Ami Mulligan led all players with 42 assists and Monica Shuk had 22 digs.

Trine has next week off before returning to action at Saint Mary's on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
