Saint Mary's Edges Out Volleyball on the Road

NOTRE DAME, Ind.—The Trine volleyball team dropped a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match at Saint Mary's, 3-1, on Tuesday night.

The Belles won the opening two sets, 25-12 and 25-15, before Trine fought to come within one with a 25-23 victory in the third. Saint Mary's sealed the match win in the fourth by a 25-16 mark.

In the third set, the Thunder took an early lead and went up 13-9. Saint Mary's came back to tie up the set three times, but Trine battled on to a 25-23 win.

Sophomores Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) and Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) led the Thunder offense with 10 kills each. Fellow classmate Morgan Harris (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville) added nine kills and two blocks. Scott put up three blocks for the night. Junior Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) helped the Thunder with 27 assists and 11 digs. Madison Cook (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) led the team with 13 digs.

Saint Mary's was led by Meaghan Gibbons and Rachel Bonek with 14 kills each. Colleen Kilgallon added 13. Kaylin Szucs totaled a match-high 26 digs. Kilgallon also had a match-high four block assists.

The Thunder will return home on Friday to play host to Adrian at 6:30 p.m. in Hershey Hall.
