Volleyball Wraps Up Play at RIT Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Trine volleyball team wrapped up play at the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder lost 3-0 to Brockport State before dropping a 3-1 contest to DeSales.

Trine and Brockport traded the lead back and forth in the first set. The Thunder was up 24-22 late in the set, but the Eagles came back to grab four straight points to win 26-24. Brockport went up 2-0 with a 25-17 win in the second set. The Eagles held an early 10-5 lead in the third, but the Thunder battled back to tie the set up eight times. The two teams were deadlocked at 22 all before the Eagles won the last three points to win the deciding third set 25-22.

Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) led the Thunder with eight kills and also added 10 digs. Madison Cook (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) led the defense with 13 digs. Sophomore Raven Hood (Monroe, Mich./Airport) added 11 digs.

Brockport was led by Brianna Richardson with 16 kills while hitting .560. Noelle Poloncarz helped the Eagles with 37 assists, and Aimee Spilman led her team's defense with 22 digs.

Against DeSales, Trine took an early 7-3 lead in the first but the Bulldogs came back to tie the match at 11 all. DeSales went on to win 25-21. The Thunder and DeSales traded leads back in forth in the second but Trine outscored the Bulldogs late in the set to win 25-18. DeSales grabbed the last two sets 25-13 and 25-15 to win the match.

Wilder and Emma Bowman (Corvallis, Ore./Saint Joseph) led the Thunder offense with seven kills each. Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind./Hobart) led the defense with 12 digs.

The Bulldogs were led by Gabby Savite with 13 kills. Lisa Wallitsch notched a match-high 37 assists. Cristal Fernandez and Savite each had 13 digs.

The Thunder returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 18 when it will take on Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for Alma at 6:30 p.m.
