JACKSONVILLE, ILL. – The Trine volleyball team won their first game of the season by sweeping MacMurray College (Ill.) (25-20, 25-20, 25-14). In their second match of the night they fell to Anderson University in four sets despite keeping it close (16-25, 24-25, 25-23, 21-25).
In the Thunder's first match of the season the team made quick work of MacMurray College by a score of three sets to none. Freshman Madison Munger led the team in kills with 12 and also finishing with a .320 attach percentage. Junior Raven Hood led the team in assists with 19 on in the match, while junior Emma Lucas added a team high three blocks to the winning effort.
In the second match Anderson came put strong in the first set and then pulled off a tough win in the second set. While Trine would win the third set, they couldn't pull out of the two set deficit, eventually falling in the fourth set. Freshman Sarah Toles was the standout in the effort as she led the teams in kills and attack percentage (10, .409). Toles added two block assists and three aces to round out her stat line. Senior Samantha Ihrie led the team with 18 assists.
The Thunder will attempt to bounce back today when first against tournament host Illinois College at 11:00 a.m. and then against Fontbonne University (Mo.) at 1:00 p.m.
