Trine Splits on Second Day in Bluffton

BLUFFTON, IND. – The Trine women's volleyball team finished off their competition at the Bluffton University Invitational with a split, defeating Marietta College 3-0 and falling to Allegheny College 3-2.

The Thunder started today's slate of games with a win over Marietta in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 26-24). The team concluded the day by coming up just short of Allegheny in five sets (25-23, 13-25, 26-28, 25-0, 13-15).

In the match against Marietta, freshman Emma Gaff stood out offensively, racking up 12 kills, three block assists and a solo block. On defense freshmen Madison Munger and Lindsey DeCamp both finished with 15 digs leading the team.

In the second match of the day, three of the Thunder, all freshmen, finished with double digit kills: Sarah Toles with 10, Gaff with 13 and Munger with 18. Decamp once again led the team in digs with 26, while junior Raven Hood finished with 24.

Senior Samantha Ihrie represented Trine on the all-tournament team. She finished the invitational with 63 total assists, 16 digs and four service aces.

The Thunder will next compete on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to Adrian College.
