KALAMAZOO, MICH. – The Trine women's volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo College in straight sets.

The first set started with the teams trading points to a 2-2, before the Thunder scored six straight points for an 8-2 lead. Freshman Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven/New Haven) served during the streak but multiple members of Trine scored kills in the stretch. The Thunder would not relinquish the lead and freshman Emma Gaff (Hamilton/Hamilton) would finish off the set with a service ace to win 25-20.

The second set was a back and forth affair, neither team was able to pull ahead by more than three points throughout the entire set. The Thunder found themselves down 20-19, when Gaff scored a kill that rotated her into the service. Junior Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) would add two kills to her nights total and Gaff would score another ace to put Trine ahead 23-20, a lead they would hold to win the second set 25-23.

The third and final set was a lopsided one. Trine would quickly build a 3-1 lead which they would never relinquish before winning the set by the score of 25-12, securing the match.

Gaff and Scott would lead the team with 11 kills apiece. Both also recorded impressive attack percentages for the match, Gaff with .300 and Scott with a match high .417.

DeCamp led the match with 13 digs. While junior Raven Hood (Monroe, Mich./Airport) led the team with 18 assists and senior Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville/East Noble) added 11 more. Freshman Emma Lucas (Hamilton/Hamilton) led the match with seven blocking assists.

The Thunder will return home to face off with Calvin College in their next match taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
