Volleyball Defeated in Five Grueling Sets

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine volleyball team was defeated by Albion College in five tough sets, by the score of 3-2.

The Thunder built a 24-17 lead in the first set and then held off a four-point swing by the Britons to win the set by 25-21. Freshman Madison Munger () put the set away for Trine. In the second set, Albion would slowly build a 21-16 lead and would trade point with Trine to finish off the set with a 25-20 win, tying the match at one set apiece.

In the third set, Albion's Kate Winter led the team in kills helping them pull away for a 25-17 win. In the fourth set, the Thunder saw themselves facing a match defeat down 22-20 when they rattled off five straight points with kills recorded by four different team members to force a fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Thunder traded points with the Britons for the first half of the set. After the teams switched sides Albion began to pull away and finished off the match with a 15-11 victory to win the match.

Munger finished the match second on the team with 12 kills while adding 11 digs and a solo block. Freshman Emma Gaff () finished the game with 11 kills and 21 digs, to go along with her team-high three service aces. Junior Raven Hood also finished the match with three service aces and added a team-high 34 assists.

But the offensive star of the match was junior Shannon Scott. She finished the match with 15 kills and a staggering .583 attack percentage, which is the sixth best single-match percentage in Trine's Division III history. 

The Thunder will look to bounce back from the loss next weekend when they travel to the Tiffany Robinson Tournament.
