Munger Leads Thunder to Two Wins

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Sophomore Madison Munger (Indianapolis / Franklin Central) records 37 kills and 21 digs to lead the Thunder to two wins to finish off Bishop Invitational competition. Munger was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts over the weekend.

Trine started the day facing off with Hanover and dropping their first set 25-11. But the Thunder made the necessary adjustments during the set break and won the second by the score of 25-21. The two teams would trade the third and fourth sets and head to a fifth to decide the match. Throughout the decisive set both teams traded points ending up at a 13-13 tie. The Thunder scored the last two points of the set to take the match victory 3-2.

Munger led the team offensively finishing with 17 kills and a .250 hitting percentage in the contest. Senior Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) finished with 10 kills and led the team's attackers with a .300 hitting percentage. Freshman Alyvia Sundheimer (Franklin / Franklin Community) finished strong with 11 kills of her own. 

Anchoring the block were four members of the team each recording four total blocks. Joining Scott and Sundheimer was sophomore Sarah Toles (Kendallville / East Noble) and senior Morgan Harris (Crown Point / Merrillville).

Trine found themselves down two sets in the final match of the weekend against Franklin. But the Thunder roared back winning the third and fourth sets to force a decisive fifth. In the final set the Thunder put everything together and blew the doors off. They took an early 5-1 lead and never relinquish it taking the final set 15-8 and the match 3-2.

Once again Munger led the way offensively recording 20 kills and a .244 hitting percentage.

Unlike the first match of the day the Toles stood out among the strong blocking attack, recording six total block. She also led attackers with a .357 hitting percentage as she recorded seven kills.

Defensively four members of the team recorded double digit digs in the match. Sophomore Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven / New Haven) led the way with 20 while Munger finished second with 16.

Following the pair of victories the Thunder improve to 7-6 on the season. They will open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference play in their next match when they travel to face Adrian on Tuesday, September 18. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
