Women's Volleyball Split on Day Two

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Trine University women's volleyball finished off the Illinois College Invite with a split, dropping their first match of the day before picking up another five-set victory in their second. The Thunder improve to 3-1 on the season following the day.

The Thunder started the day with a match against a tough Grinnell College squad. The opposition won three straight sets to hand Trine their first loss of the season.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way offensively for the Thunder finishing the contest with 13 kills and a .222 attack percentage. She also added eight digs, tied for second-most on the team.

Senior Danielle Stanichuk (Troy, Mich. / Athens) led the way defensively with 14 digs while adding one of the team's four aces in the contest. Junior Jacqueline Baughman (Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) came up with a team-high 28 assists.

Trine responded to the loss strongly picking up the first set against Simpson College by the score of 25-20. The teams would trade sets through the first four forcing a fifth and final set. The Thunder pulled away in that final set picking up the match victory with a 15-9 win.

Munger once again led the way offensively coming away with 21 kills in the match. This time she also made her presence felt near the net picking up three total blocks while adding 18 more digs.

Junior Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) led the team with 19 digs in the contest and Baughman once again led the way with 51 assists. Four Thunder recorded multiple aces in the contest. Baughman, DeCamp and freshman Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) each came away with two while Stanichuk picked up three more.

Following the successful first weekend of competition, the Thunder will next take the court on Friday, Sept. 6 when they face off with Ohio Wesleyan University in the first match of the MIAA/NCAC Crossover Event. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
