Women's Volleyball Aces Their Way to Victory

LANSING, Mich. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team picked up another win this evening in their first match of the MIAA-NCAC Volleyball Crossover Challenge. They defeated Ohio Wesleyan University by three sets to one.

The Thunder took the first set by the score of 25-21 before dropping the second 23-25. Their most convincing win of the evening came int he third which they took 25-11. They then finished off the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth.

The Thunder offense in the contest was led by superb serving. The team tallied 17 aces in the contest with four different players recording multiple. The tally ties for seventh-most in a single match in Trine's recorded volleyball history.

Junior Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) led the way for the Thunder recording eight aces on her own. She becomes the first player to do so since Trine joined NCAA Division III. The tally also puts her in second all-time for an individual match. She also led the way with 13 digs.

Senior Danielle Stanichuk (Troy, Mich. / Athens) and freshman Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) both ended the match with three aces while fellow freshman Jillian Hannah (Cygnet, Mich. / Elmwood) finished with two.

Leading the way offensively for the Thunder was junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) who finished the match with 20 kills. She also came in second with 11 digs. Classmate Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) led the team with 38 assists in the contest.

The team improves to 4-1 following the victory. They will continue their season tomorrow, Sept. 7 with two more crossover matches. They begin the day at 10 a.m. by facing off with Hiram College and then finish up with Denison University at 2 p.m.
