Volleyball Splits on Second Day of Hanover Invitational

HANOVER, Ind. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team finished off Hanover Invitational competition with a 0-3 loss to host Hanover College and a 3-2 victory over Franklin College.

In the first match of the day, the Thunder took on Hanover and found themselves on the short end in all three sets, despite putting up a fight in each, falling with scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 23-25.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the team with 15 kills in the contest while also coming in second with 11 digs. Classmate Jacquelin Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) led the team with 30 assists while also adding two blocks.

The Thunder dropped behind two sets to zero to start the final contest of the day dropping the first 25-19 and the second 27-25. The close second frame seemed to galvanize the team as they went on to force a fifth set with a 25-20 win in the third and a 25-23 win in the fourth.

Trine looked ready to cruise to victory in the deciding set pulling out to a convincing 6-1 lead. But the Grizzlies battled back to tie the set at 13-13. The Thunder would go on to take the contest's final two points to pull off the 15-13 victory.

Munger once again led the way for the team, this time recording 21 kills in the contest. Junior Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) also turned in a double-digit kill total with 13. Baughman finished the match with 47 more assists. Junior Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) led the way defensively with 31 digs in the contest while also coming away with four service aces.

Trine finishes the weekend 6-4. They will take the court again on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when they travel to face Anderson (Ind.) University. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
