Women's Volleyball Defeats Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team defeated Anderson (Ind.) University by the score of three sets to one.

The Thunder started the contest by dropping the first three points of the first set and despite winning a few points they ultimately fell behind by 15-6 and would still trail later in the set at 21-15. Trine then went on two five-point runs to storm past the Ravens and take the set 25-23.

The two teams traded points through the first half of the second set until the two teams found themselves tied at 13-13. From there Trine went on a seven to one run to take the lead 19-14. They would not relinquish the lead and despite a late charge by Anderson came away with the 25-23 victory.

The third set saw the two teams reach a tie ten times with the final time coming at the 24-24. Anderson would finish off the set with two straight points pulling back into the match at 2-1.

The fourth set once again saw the two teams tied late, this time at 20-20. The Thunder then finished off the match with a five-point run to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way for the Thunder offensively racking up 23 kills in the contest. She also added 10 digs. and three total blocks.

Freshman Breanna Small (Indianapolis, Ind. / Beech Grove) led the team's blocking effort recording six total blocks. Junior Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) came away with team-highs in digs with 23 and service aces with three.

Junior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) came up with 42 assists in the contest. Classmate Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) led attackers with a .250 hitting percentage on 11 kills.

Trine improves to 7-4 following the victory. They will host both Bluffton University and Calvin University on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a tri-match which is set to begin at noon.
