Women's Volleyball Splits Home Tri-Match

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team came away from their first pair of home contests of the season with a 1-1 record. They defeated Bluffton University by 3-0 before falling to nationally-ranked Calvin University 3-0.

The Thunder started the day making quick work of Bluffton. They took the first set 26-24 but then cruised to a 25-17 win in the second. The team finished off the match winning 25-22 in the third.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way for the team finishing the contest with 15 kills. Classmate Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) came in with nine kills to finish second while also leading the way with an impressive .438 hitting percentage.

Defensively Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) came up with nine digs adding to her career total which just recently surpassed 1,000. Junior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) came up with 33 assists in the contest.

The second contest of the day saw the Thunder take on the nations highest-ranked team in the form of the Knights of Calvin University. Trine held tough with the opposition in each set but ultimately fell with scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-20.

Once again Munger came away with a team-high in kills, this time with 20. She also led the way for the team with a .357 hitting percentage. DeCamp once again lead the way with 17 digs and Baughman came away with 25 assists.

The Thunder finish the day with an 8-5 record. They will take the court again on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. The contest signals the beginning of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play as Trine will face Adrian College.
