Volleyball Splits in Tri-Match Action

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team traveled to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to face off in a pair of contests and returned home with a win over Illinois Tech and a loss to host Rose-Hulman.

The Thunder started the day by splitting the first two sets with Illinois Tech with scores of 26-24 and 20-25. They would go on to take the third in convincing 25-15 fashion before winning the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way for the Thunder with 17 kills in the contest. Classmate Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) came in second on the team with 11 kills but led the way in efficiency with a .474 hitting percentage.

Freshman Breanna Small (Indianapolis, Ind. / Beech Grove) led the block for the team with four total in the contest. Freshman Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) came in with 22 digs and four service aces to led Trine in both categories.

The second match of the day saw the Thunder jump out to a two-set lead with scores of 26-24 and 25-23. Rose-Hulman would respond by taking the next three sets handily to win the match.

Munger led the team again this time with 27 kills. Junior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) led the way with 50 assists and three service aces. Classmate Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) also finished with three service aces, while leading the way with 16 digs.

The Thunder finish the weekend 11-6 following the split. They will continue their season Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they return to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a match against Alma College. The contest, set to start at 6:30 p.m., is the team's annual Pink Match.
