Women's Volleyball Falls to Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Trine University women's volleyball team came up short of nationally-ranked Calvin University losing 3-0 in their fourth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season.

The Knights came out strong in the match taking the first set 25-12. The second set looked to be going the same way with the Knights building an early 9-2 lead which they would hold through to a 20-13 score. From there the Thunder went on an 8-3 run to pull within two at 23-21. They were only able to split points with the opposition from there falling in the set 25-22.

The third set saw Trine take the early lead taking the first four points and then leading 8-4 later. From there Calvin went on a six-point run to take their first lead of the set 9-8. They would not relinquish the lead again and pulled away to a 25-17 win to take the match 3-0.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led Trine with 12 kills in the match she also added a block and six digs. Classmate Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) led with 12 digs in the match.

Junior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) came away with a team-high 18 assists. She also tied with DeCamp to lead the team with two service aces.

The Thunder fall to 12-7 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA. They will continue their season on Saturday, Oct. 12 by traveling to face Hope College in another MIAA match. The contest is set to start at 1 p.m.
