Women's Volleyball Falls Short in Match with Dominican University

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Trine University women's volleyball team traveled to face Dominican University and were defeated by the three sets to zero.

The two teams started the first set trading points back and forth before the Stars became the first team to go on a run and took an 18-12 lead. The Thunder went on an 8-1 run of their own to take back the lead at 20-19. The two teams remained close until Dominican took three straight points and then finished off the set with a score of 25-23.

Trine took the first lead in the second set leading 4-1 early on. The team would hold a slim lead for the next portion of the set until the Stars took their first lead of the set at 14-13. The Thunder held close with them until the final portion of the set when Dominican finished off the set with a 25-18 victory.

The final set saw the Stars build a convincing early lead with the Thunder unable to make up the deficit as they fell by the score of 25-16 to lose the match 3-0.

Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way offensively for Trine finishing the match with 14 kills and a .212 hitting percentage. Classmate Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) came in with nine kills to finish second while also leading the team in blocks.

Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) led the team with 26 assists and also with nine digs, a mark she shared with Munger in the match.

Trine falls to 14-11 overall following the match. They will continue their season when they travel to Franklin College for a tri-match competition on Sunday, Oct. 27. They will begin the day by facing off with Bluffton University and then finish off with a match against host Franklin which is scheduled for 4 p.m.
