NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Junior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) recorded the 1000th kill of her career, but the Trine University women's volleyball team came up short of hosts Saint Mary's College losing 3-1.

The first set was a tightly contested affair. The Thunder were forced to come back multiple times in the set before they took a 24-22 lead. The Belles would then take five of the last six points to win 27-25. The second set saw Saint Mary's come up with a decisive 25-15 win.

Trailing two sets to zero Trine staved off defeat in the third set coming up with the 25-21 win. They then led late in the fourth set looking to force the fifth set but gave up a few too many points at the end to fall 25-23, and lose the match 3-1.

Munger finished the evening with 16 kills, more than enough to break 1000 in her career. The tally also adds to her single-season record-holding tally of 508 kills.

Three other members of the team came up with double-digit kills in the contest. Junior Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) finished the contest with 12 while classmates Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) and Becca Moon (Charlevoix, Mich. / Charlevoix) came up with ten apiece.

Baughman also led the team with 36 assists in the contest while freshman Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) led the team with 19 digs.

The Thunder fall to 17-12 and 5-3 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) following the loss. They will finish in a tie for third in the MIAA standings with Alma College. They will enter the MIAA Tournament as the three seed based on head-to-head competition. They will await final regular-season game results tomorrow to see who they will host on Tuesday, November 5. That quarterfinal match will start at 7 p.m.
