Women's Volleyball Sweeps Adrian to Start MIAA Season

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team started the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) season with a victory over Adrian College by the score of 3-0.

The teams started the first set going mainly back and forth in the scoring until the Thunder found their stride and went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 21-15. They were able to trade points through the rest of the set and ended with the 25-19 win. Trine would slowly build their lead in the second set before going on a 4-1 run to finish it out with a score of 25-19.

The third set was the closest of the night with the teams finding themselves tied 12 times through the set. It took extra points to finish the set but the Thunder came up with the win at 29-27 to come home with the 3-0 match victory.

Senior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the way offensively for the team finishing with 14 kills in the contest. Freshman Anna Loughrey (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) finished second on the team with nine kills while senior Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) rounded out the scoring with eight kills.

Senior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) finished the night with a team-high 20 assists, while sophomore Joslynn Battle (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) came in at a close second with 16. Baughman also led the team with a pair of aces in the contest.

Munger finished with 15 digs to lead the team while sophomore Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) came in second with 12.

The Thunder improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play following the victory. They will return home to face off with Hope College on Wednesday, March 31. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
