Knights Overpower Women's Volleyball

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's volleyball team was overpowered in their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match against Calvin University by the score of 3-0.

The Thunder started off the day on the wrong foot as the Knights opened the first set on a 6-1 run. For the rest of the set, the team's mostly traded points with a slight advantage to Calvin and the Knights would end up with a 25-13 victory.

After dropping the first two points of the second set the Thunder rallied for three straight to take their first lead of the match at 3-2. The teams would trade points until they were tied at 5-5. They would be tied again at 8-8. From there Calvin pulled away and would take the set 25-15.

Trine once again had early success as they built a lead at 7-5. Once again the Knights started to pull away from that point on and would win the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Senior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led the Thunder's offensive effort finishing the contest with 10 kills. Senior Jacqueline Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest) came in second with five kills while junior Kristen Dauksza (Kentland, Ind. / South Newton) and senior Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) finished with four apiece.

Munger along with sophomore Paris Outwater (Bronson, Mich. / Bronson) finished atop the team with 12 digs each. Baughman came in right behind them with 11 digs, she also would lead the team with 19 assists.

The Thunder fall to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play. They will continue their season when they travel to face Alma College on Friday, April 9. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
