Three Straight Sweeps for Trine Women's Volleyball

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the third match in a row, the Trine women's volleyball team was able to complete the three-set sweep and on Friday night, it was against Oswego State University in a neutral site contest at St. John Fisher University. The win pushes Trine's record to 3-6 overall while Oswego falls to 1-6 in 2023.

The Thunder were able to take advantage of errors by their opponents throughout the match. In all three sets, the Lakers were negative in hitting percentage, but the first was the most costly for Trine's opponents with nine errors.

Senior Meara Finnegan scored on a block assist and kill early in the first to put the Thunder ahead 10-5. Oswego was able to fight back to even with five consecutive points, however Trine would open the floodgates offensively to win 25-12. 15 of the final 17 points, including the last 12 straight, belonged to the Thunder. Sophomore Anna Zellers tallied four service aces during the spree.

The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in set number two at 8-5, but a string of seven in a row in favor of the Thunder turned the tide of the set and match. Senior Anna Loughrey and juniors Catherine Dobies and Francesca Queary did the damage at the net with a combined three kills and two blocks to go up 19-13. With Zellers serving once again, Trine rattled off six consecutive points to finish this set, 25-15.

Miscues by Trine in the third set put them behind by as many as seven at 15-8 but sophomore Kylie Rowland helped to pull the Thunder back into the set. A trio of aces by sophomore Cara Wlodarczyk helped put the team back in front at 20-18 and kills by Loughrey and junior Cassidy Victor capped off the 25-21 set win.

Dobies recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs, both team-highs. It is her second double-double of the year. Freshman Lindsey Call distributed 14 assists in the match. Zellers totaled five of the team's 11 aces.

Trine women's volleyball continues their trip in upstate New York with a pair of matches at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The Thunder face the host Tigers at 11 a.m. and square off with Grove City College at 1 p.m.
