TIFFIN, Ohio – Junior Riley Morrison picked up another victory, but the Trine University women's wrestling team were outmatched by their hosts from Tiffin University. The Dragons came out on top of the dual match by the score of 35-5.
Morrison took the first contested match of the day. She quickly pinned her opponent just 36 seconds into the match, earning five points for the team scorecard. She went on to compete in an extra match wrestling up two weight classes at 130, and held on for most of the first period.
In the second match of the day junior Michelle Sanchez went up a weight class to compete in the 130 match. She turned in a strong performance but was ultimately overpowered in the second period losing by pin. Sanchez went on to wrestle an extra match and made it to the final minute before falling.
The final competitor for the team was sophomore Ashton Francis who wrestled a pair of matches. She began in her own weight class of 170, but fell in the second minute. Then in an extra she faced off with a 191 opponent, up a weight class, and fell in the third minute.
The team will next take the mats when they travel to face Rochester University on Friday, December 9. The away contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
