Thunder Women Place Seventh at MIAA Jamboree

KALAMAZOO, MICH.-- The Trine women's cross country team placed seventh in the MIAA Jamboree, hosted by Kalamazoo College Saturday morning.

The Thunder accumulated a team score of 195 points. Leading the way was freshman Heather Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) topped all Trine performers in the 6K race, finishing in 25:42. The finish marked the first time Richardson has led the field of Thunder runners in an event. Calvin finished as the top team, with 20 points paced by five top-10 runners. The Knights' Cassandra Vince finished first overall with a time of 22:29. The MIAA Jamboree counts one-third towards the MIAA Championship.

Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) finished second and third among Trine runners. Ortiz finished the race in 25:59, with Forsythe crossing the finish line just behind at 26:07.

Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) finished fourth among Thunder performers with a time of 27:16. Kelli Hogenkamp (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) rounded out Trine's top five with a 29:01 performance.

The Thunder will head to Winona Lake for the Grace Lancer Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 4.
