Women's Cross Country Places Second in Hokum Karem

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.-- The Trine women's cross country team placed second in the Manchester University Hokum Karem Tuesday night.

Thunder runners earned the team 14 points in the season-opening race. The race consisted of pairs of runners alternating one-mile laps. Each runner in a pairing ran three laps for a total combined distance of six miles. The team's best performance was turned in by the pairing of Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) and Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), who combined to place third.

Forsythe and Blystone combined to finish the race in 38:05.06, good enough for an average mile pace of 6:21. That pace was just three seconds off the first-place finishing duo.

Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) finished second among Thunder runners and fourth overall. With an average mile pace of 6:14, the duo turned in a time of 38:14.5.

The final Trine pairing was made up of Heather Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) and Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern). Richardson and Stensland averaged a 6:47 mile pace to finish seventh overall.

Trine will compete in the Indiana Intercollegiate Friday, Sept. 18 at Indiana State University.
