Women's XC Competes in Pre-National Meet

WINNECONE, Wis.-- The Trine women's cross country team placed 40th in the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational, held Saturday on the national championship course at Lake Breeze Golf Club.

The efforts of Thunder runners earned the team 1,071 points in the meet. The Invitational served as a pre-national meet, which saw teams from 13 states participating in the race. A total of 414 runners representing 46 schools competed in the men's race. As a whole, the event featured 1,404 runners from 143 teams. Trine did not have its full complement of runners competing in the race.

Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) was the top Thunder runner as she finished with a time of 23:57 on the 6K course. The pace was her second-consecutive sub-24 minute time in a 6K race.

Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) ran a time of 24:06 to finish second among Trine runners.

Freshmen Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) finished third and fourth. Stensland's time was 24:11, while Piekarski finished just behind at 24:15. Piekarski's time was a season-best in the 6K. 

Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) rounded out the top five Thunder performers with a time of 24:30. Three of Trine's top five times were run by freshmen.

Trine will compete in the MIAA Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Olivet. The Thunder will be looking to lock up the team's best-ever finish in the conference after placing third in the Jamboree earlier this season, which counts one-third towards the final MIAA standings.
