Women's Cross Country Places 20th in Great Lakes Regional

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Trine women's cross country team placed 20th in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Thunder runners Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Tellowstone) each placed in the top 100 to lead the performance. Stensland led Trine for the first time her career, finishing with a time of 24:13. Binfet earned the Thunder 99 points with her performance, crossing the finish line in 24:18. Overall, Trine runners combined for a score of 556 points in the 33-team race.

Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) finished third among Thunder runners with a time of 24:22. Freshman Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) finished just behind in 24:32. Trine's top four times were turned in by runners expected to return to the program last fall.

Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) rounded out the team's fop five runners in her final collegiate cross country race. The senior has been a key member of Thunder teams and one of the team's top runners over the last four seasons.

The Great Lakes Regional concludes the 2015 season for Trine. The team wraps up the campaign having tied for fourth in the MIAA to earn its best finish as a member of the conference.
