Women's Cross Country Captures Hokum Karem Title

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The Trine University women's cross country team took top honors at the annual Hokum Karem meet hosted by Manchester (Ind.) University.

The Hokum Karem format features pairs of runners alternating one-mile laps around the course. Each runner in the pairing runs three miles for a combined six-mile distance. Trine ended the event with an overall team score of eight points, aided by a pair of duos taking the top two finishes in the standings.  Scores were added by totaling up the placement from the top three pairs from each school, with the lowest total earning the victory.

The Thunder was led by the duo of Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Kyla Binfet (Branson, Mont./West Yellowstone) who posted a combined overall time of 35:30.5 and averaged a 5.55 minute mile to take top honors.  The tandum of Evonne Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) averaged 6:03/M and finished with an overall mark of 36:19.6 to place second.

Trine had one additional pairing place in the top-10 in Ruth Luebcke (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Stacy Dibley (Bristol, Ind./Elkhart Central) who placed fifth with a time of 38:22.9 (6:24/M).  Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and Miranda Coombs (Lexington, Mich./Croswell-Lexington) finished just outside the top-10 in 11th place after completing the event with a combined time of 40:47.5 (6.48/M)

Trine will next compete in the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 9 at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.  The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
