ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University women's cross country runner Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) has been named the Division III women's cross country "Athlete of the Week" by the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Bultemeyer posted the top overall time at the Knight Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7 hosted by Calvin (Mich.) College.  Her time of 21:29.0 also set a school record for the 6k that surpassed Kyla Binfet's previous mark of 22:00.8.

This is the first time that an athlete from Trine has been named "National Athlete of the Week" during the cross country season.

National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to 10 collegiate cross country athletes, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and two NJCAA divisions).  The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors will also play a role in the decision.

Bultemeyer and the Thunder will compete at the Ray Bullock Invitational hosted by Taylor University in Upland, Ind on Friday Sept. 20, 2019 at 5 pm.
