Trine's Evie Bultemeyer Named the USTFCCCA Region Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, LA.  --  Trine University junior women's cross country runner Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) has been named the Great Lakes Region "Athlete of the Year" by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Bultemeyer has had a standout cross country season that has included four individual event titles and has set the school 6k record twice so far this season.  This past weekend, she added to her list of individual wins at the Great Lakes Region Championships in which she ran a time of 20:58.4.

Earlier this season, Bultemeyer captured the MIAA Cross Country Championship individual title (22:34.9) and was named the MIAA "Most Valuable Runner" to go along with earning first-team All-Conference honors.  In addition, she posted the top overall times at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble (20:56.1 - school record) and the Calvin (Mich.) College Knight Invitational (21:29.0 - school record) early in the season.

Bultemeyer earned an automatic spot in this year's NCAA Division III National Championship Meet as the result of finishing in the top-four at this year's regional competition.

The NCAA National Meet will be held at Tom Sawyer Park on the campus of Louisville University in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 23.  The women's race is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m.
