Trine Secures Four All-MIAA Spots at Conference Championship Meet

SHEPHERD, Mich. – At the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Cross Country Championships, the Trine University women's cross country team placed third and had four All-MIAA honorees.

As a team, the Thunder were third overall behind conference champions Hope College and second spot Calvin University. Trine was led by third-place finisher Lydia Randolph in the women's 6K race. The Flying Dutch tallied 39 points and the Knights had 50 points. The Thunder were just behind at 52 points.

The sophomore Randolph completed the race with a time of 21:38.0, a new career-best. She earned her first career All-MIAA accolade on Saturday. Junior Carol Haldeman also was All-MIAA with her sixth-place overall finish. She also ran a career-best time of 21:58.7. It is the first time she has been named to the First Team and second All-MIAA award of her Thunder tenure.

12th and 14th place finishers Brianna Medcalf and Alli Smith were also tabbed as All-MIAA recipients on the Second Team. The senior Medcalf placed 12th with a time of 2:28.9 and classmate Smith ran a 22:45.2, both Trine bests. It is Medcalf's first and Smith's second time receiving the end of conference season award.

Rounding out the scoring for the Thunder was sophomore Ana Parker with a 17th place run of 22:48.2. All five scoring members had new career-best times and are peaking heading into postseason action.

The team will look to qualify for the NCAA National Championship meet for the second consecutive season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Hope College on Saturday, November 12. The women's event begins at 12:15 pm.
