The volleyball team opens the athletic slate for the weekend Friday night with a match against Adrian at 6:30 p.m. The Thunder enter the second half of the MIAA schedule in the thick of the race for a conference playoff berth. A victory over the Bulldogs would give the Thunder a season sweep in the series, which could loom important for any potential tiebreaker scenario for playoff seeding down the road.
Friday night will also feature the men's lacrosse alumni game under the lights of Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium. Face-off is slated for 9 p.m.
Saturday will feature the dedication of two brand-new athletic facilities. The Ryan Tennis Center will be dedicated in a ceremony at 10:30 a.m., followed by the dedication of SportONE/Parkview Softball Field at 11 a.m. The softball team will receive its MIAA Championship rings at the dedication of the softball facility.
The headline event of Saturday's athletic action comes at 1 p.m. as the Trine football team hosts Olivet. The Thunder enter the matchup 3-1 overall, while the Comets bring a 4-0 mark into play. Trine will be looking to remain unbeaten in conference play as it works towards earning an MIAA title. The two teams have played to thrilling finishes each of the last two years, with the last two games decided by a total of just seven points combined.
Special university-wide events will be held throughout the day and building up towards the kickoff of the football game, including Storm's Challenge 5K Walk and Run, the Thunder Zone and various tailgating opportunities.
A doubleheader of soccer action begins at noon at Weaver Field. The men's soccer team opens play with a match against nationally-ranked foe Calvin at noon. That will be followed by the women's soccer match against Kalamazoo at 2:30 p.m.
Alumni games slated for Saturday include contests for softball, men's basketball and men's soccer alumni.
The final alumni game of the weekend will be Sunday's baseball game at noon.
