FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Eddie Tomich has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for games through Mar. 1, the conference announced Tuesday.
Tomich (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) threw a one-hit shutout to lead the Thunder to an 11-0 victory over Anna Maria in the season-opener Sunday afternoon. The senior struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. The performance marked just the second time a Trine pitcher struck out 10 or more in a game since the team joined NCAA Division III prior to the 2005 season. Tomich is being honored as Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and the first time in his career.
Tomich has been a steady presence in the Trine rotation the past two seasons, winning three games in each campaign. In 21 career appearances, the senior has logged 108 innings. He has struck out 54 and earned seven victories.
Trine has opened the season 1-2. The Thunder face Milwaukee School of Engineering in a doubleheader this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
