FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kory Shackle has been named the MIAA Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Shackle (Butler, Ohio/Mount Vernon) hit safely in all six games in leading the Thunder to a 3-3 week as the team concluded its performance in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The junior outfielder batted .476 (10-for-21) with a triple, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base. Included among Shackle's performances were three-hit games against Rose-Hulman and Mount Union. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and the first time in his career.
Shackle is off to a hot start to the 2015 campaign, with hits in seven of the first eight games. The junior is tied for fourth in the conference with a .429 batting average and leads all MIAA players with two triples. Shackle has also driven in seven runs, fifth-most in the league thus far.
Trine concluded the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 4-4 record. The Thunder are scheduled to play their home-opener this Saturday, Mar. 14 against Ohio Northern. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
