ANGOLA, IND. -- Trine University senior Adam Wheaton (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Prep) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball "Pitcher of the Week."
Wheaton recorded a standout performance in the first game of a doubleheader against Olivet (Mich.) College on Sunday (Apr. 18) that saw the Thunder win, 14-0, at Jannen Field. Wheaton pitched all seven innings and gave up no runs and five hits while striking out 10 batters to claim his second win of the season (2-3 overall). It was the third time in his career with 10 or more strikeouts in a game.
It marked Wheaton's third complete game of the season and his first shut out victory.
For the year, Wheaton has appeared in six games and started five. He has pitched a team-high 34 complete innings and has a team-best 37 strike outs. To date, Wheaton leads the team in earned run average among the starters at 3.44.
Trine will begin a four-game series against Albion (Mich.) College starting on Saturday, Apr. 24 in Albion, Mich. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
