ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University baseball team dropped a road contest on Wednesday afternoon 11-1 against Adrian College in seven innings. The game was postponed from Tuesday, April 2 and moved to Adrian due to wet field conditions. With the loss, the Thunder fall to 8-13 overall and are 0-4 inside the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) while the Bulldogs advance to 11-8 and 2-1 in conference play.
Cole Temple had two of the team's five hits in the game, including a double. He was also the only run scored in his first career start in left field. Luke Burford was responsible for the run batted in. Will Gimbel (0-2) started the game on the mound and tossed a team-high three innings with one strikeout.
Two hits and an error led to Adrian scoring two runs in the first inning to claim an early lead. They would tack on one run in the second and third innings to make it a 4-0 game.
Three hits for Trine in the top of the fourth led to a run. A one-out single to centerfield by Temple was followed up by a Nathan Gilmet single to the same spot. Burford drove in Temple with a two-out single to right.
The Bulldogs kept the offense rolling by answering the Thunder run in the bottom of the fourth and putting up a crooked number in the fifth. Two runs in the bottom of the seventh led to a run-rule win for Adrian to take the mid-week series opener between the teams.
A three-game set with Albion College kicks off on Friday, April 5 at 4 p.m. Jannen Field will be the home for game one.
