ANGOLA, IND. – The Trine men's ACHA D2 hockey team defeated University of Michigan by the score of 9-0 today. With the win, the Thunder completed the weekend sweep of the Wolverines, having defeated them 6-3 on Friday.
On Friday, Trine pulled out to a 4-0 lead before trading goals through the rest of the game to finish with the 6-3 victory. Sophomore forward Nick Anderson (Sacramento, Calif.) lead the team with four points including two goals and two assists. Freshman forward Brandon Bornkamp (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished the game with three points including two goals and one assist, while classmate Brendon Werstine (Lakewood, Calif.) added a team high three assists.
Today, the Thunder offenses scored early and often on the way to a 9-0 victory. Sophomore forward Michael Rand (Langley, B.C.) led the team with three points including two goals and one assist. Werstine, Anderson and Bornkamp each added the requisite points to finish the series with five points total.
Freshman Adam Conkling started both games in net for Trine and finished the weekend with 47 saves while allowing the three goals on Friday. Sophomore Tristan Canter (Pittsburgh, Pa.) saw action in relief on Sunday, finishing off the team shutout with seven saves in the third period.
The Thunder continue their season with a home and away series against Davenport University. They will be at home on Saturday, February 3, with puck drop scheduled for 5 p.m.
