BILLINGS, MONT.-- Former Trine football All-American Taylor Sprague has signed with the Billings Wolves of the Indoor Football League, the team announced Tuesday.
Sprague was named an Associated Press AP Little All-American and AFCA All-American during the 2013 season for the Thunder. The offensive tackle was a two-time First-Team All-MIAA performer during his Trine career. He started every game at left tackle during the 2012-13 seasons. Sprague will compete for one of 25 spots on the Billings roster. IFL rosters are made up of 21 active, and four practice squad players.
The IFL was formed in 2008 when the Intense Football League merged with the United Indoor Football Association. The league is currently comprised of ten organizations- the Billings Wolves, Bemidji Axemen, Cedar Rapids Titans, Iowa Barnstormers, Green Bay Blizzard, Sioux Falls Storm, Colorado Ice, Nebraska Danger, Tri-Cities Fever, and Wichita Falls Nighthawks.
IFL games are played on 50-yard fields with eight-yard end zones. Each team has eight players on the field on a given play. Defenses are required to have three down linemen on the field, while offenses must have four players on the line of scrimmage.
There is no punting in the league. Scoring is standard when compared to collegiate football with the following exceptions: drop-kick field goals are worth four points, while a rogue is worth one point. A rogue occurs when a kick-returner is caught in his own end zone.
Billings opens the season Saturday, Feb. 28 at Tri-Cities. For more information on the Wolves, visit www.billingswolves.com.
