Jacob Kinsey joined the Thunder in 2005 and is the Offensive Coordinator.

The 2019 season saw two players named All-MIAA on offense in wide receiver Seth Boggs and lineman Noah Routson.  Both players earned second-team recognition and both players were part of an offensive squad that averaged 321.9 yards of total offense per game in 2019, including 188.6 yards on the ground which ranked fifth in the conference.  The Trine offense racked up 300 or more yards of offense in five games, including two games of over 400 yards with a season-high 477-yard performance in a win against Finlandia (Mich.) University.

During the 2018 season, served as co-offensive coordinator and assisted with the running backs.  Kinsey helped coach one of the top-rated offenses in NCAA Division III, especially in the ground game.  The Thunder averaged an impressive 304.8 yards per game on the ground which ranked as the fourth-highest nationally.  The Thunder also had the 13th-best scoring offense that included 66 touchdowns with 40 of those being rushing.  In total, the Thunder rushed for 3,353 yards which was second only to the 2017 season for the most in program history during a single year. Indiividually, Trine boasted the nation's leading rusher in Lamar Carswell who rushed for a school single-season record 2,294 yards and a Trine single-season mark of 32 rushing TDs, surpassing his previous record set in 2017 (25).  In the conference, Trine led all teams in every rushing category including yards (3,353), attempts (497), yards per game (304.8) yards per carry (6.7) and rushing TDs (40).  Overall, the Trine offense ranked third overall in total yards per game at 434.4.  Five players earned All-MIAA honors on offense (all first-team selections), two were tabbed All-Region and Carswell earned All-American status by the American Football Coaches Assocation (AFCA), D3football.com and the Associated Press.

In 2017, the Thunder offense led the MIAA in yards per game (475.0), total rushing yards (3,955), rushing yards per game (329.6), total offense (5,700 yards) and scoring (44.3 points per game).  Nationally, Trine's 329.6 yards per game on the ground ranked fourth most in NCAA Division III.  In addition, Trine's offense ranked in the top-10 in the nation in team passing efficiency (3rd - 186.7) and scoring offense (6th - 44.3 ppg.).  The Thunder had two players rush for over 1,000 yards (Evan Wyse - 1,180 and Lamar Carswell - 1,500), marking the first time in program history that the team has had a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in a single season.  Eight players earned All-MIAA honors on offense, including the MIAA Offensive "MVP," and two players who were tabbed All-Region.

During his coaching career at Trine, Kinsey has also coached the wide receivers highlighed by 12 All-MIAA selections, including six first-team honorees. Kinsey coached wide receiver Gage Corner in setting the program record for receiving yards.

Kinsey earned his undergraduate degree from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill. He received a Bachelor of Arts in sport management with minors in business administration and psychology in 2004. While at MacMurray, Kinsey lettered in football receiving First Team All-Conference. He was also a member of two conference championship teams.

After graduation from MacMurray, Kinsey was a graduate assistant at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. His primary duty was coaching the linebackers. Kinsey received his master’s degree in sports administration in July of 2005.
