ANGOLA, IND. -- The men's basketball program at Trine University would like to announce the hiring of Rob Metry as assistant coach.
Coach Metry comes to Trine having previously served as a graduate assistant coach at Heidelberg University where he developed a reputation as a relentless recruiter while specializing in player development both on and off the floor. Metry received his bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University where he majored in history and worked as a student assistant coach for the men's basketball team under the tutelage of Head Coach Bill Brown. Coach Brown accumulated over 500 career victories and is the all-time winningest coach at Wittenberg which is also the winningest program in NCAA DIII history.
"Coach Metry will do a tremendous job in helping to elevate the student-athlete experience within our basketball program here at Trine." said Head Coach Brooks Miller. "He provides our players with another resource to utilize when it comes to their growth academically, athletically, and socially."
"There is a strong tradition of winning at this place and I am excited to play a part in that success going forward," stated Metry. "I hope that my greatest impact will not only be in recruiting, but with the current players themselves. They all take pride in their academic success and I am very excited to continue to build great relationships with each one of them in all aspects of their development. My goal is to be a positive influence in their lives while at Trine University and continue that relationship into their professional careers."
The Thunder open up official team practice on October 15th with their first exhibition contest taking place on November 4th at The University of Toledo which is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
