ANGOLA, IND. -- Trine University junior men's basketball player Nick Bowman (Angola, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) has been named first-team All-Great Lakes Region by D3hoops.com. Additionally, Bowman was named the Great Lakes "Player of the Year" and Head Coach Brooks Miller was selected as regional "Coach of the Year."
Bowman led the league in scoring (21.8 points per game), field goals (146-of-273), steals (63) and was second in assists (54), but led the conference in helpers in MIAA games (23). Bowman scored in double figures in all but one game with 11 games of 20 or more points and two games of 30 or more points, including a career-high 35-point effort against Olivet (Mich.) College on Feb. 13. Bowman earned MIAA "Athlete of the Week" three times in 2020-21 and was named to the D3hoops.com "Team of the Week" twice.
Earlier this season, Bowman earned first-team All-MIAA honors and was tabbed the conference "Most Valuable Player."
Miller helped lead the team to a 17-1 record and captured their first-ever MIAA Tournament title as well as a second conference regular-season championship. The sole loss came in an end of season showdown with top-ranked Randolph-Macon (Va.) College.
After a 7-0 start to the season, Coach Miller's squad was ranked No. 6 in the first D3hoops.com Top-15 rankings of the year. They climbed as high as No. 2 in the rankings, setting up the matchup with No. 1 Randolph Macon, which came in lieu of a Division III National Tournament.
Coach Miller, in his 10th year at the helm of the program, picked up his 150th career win this season. He currently holds a career record of 157-99, and has led Trine to a top-four finish in the MIAA in each of his 10 seasons. He is responsible for leading Trine to its first ever MIAA Regular Season (2018-19) and Tournament (2020-21) titles.
