ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's basketball team has unveiled their 2023-24 schedule and are looking to build upon their 2022-23 campaign where they held a record of 22-4 overall and were a stout 12-1 at home inside the MTI Center.
The Thunder kick-off their year with the Lauren Hill Classic played as Mount St. Joseph University on November 11 and 12. Trine will face Hanover College in a neutral site game on day one and play the host institution the following day.
The home opener for the Thunder takes place on Thursday, November 16 when Franklin College comes to Angola. The next two Saturdays also see Trine playing at home: Baldwin Wallace University on November 18 and Ohio Wesleyan University on November 25.
From there, the Thunder go on a three-out-of-four game stretch on the road at Heidelberg University on November 29, at home against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on December 9, at Anderson University on December 18 and at Elmhurst University on December 20. The team looks for revenge at home against the Pointers, who handed the team their only loss outside of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponents.
The final out-of-league teams Trine will face are in the St. Andrews Products Classic on December 29 and 30. The Thunder will host Berry University and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville inside the MTI Center for the showcase event to conclude the calendar year. There are mostly new faces on the men's basketball schedule this season, but out of common opponents from last year, Trine was 3-1 with wins over Mount St. Joseph, Anderson and Baldwin Wallace.
After a 10-2 season inside the MIAA, the Thunder will open up the conference slate on the road at Kalamazoo College on January 4 and return home to play The University of Olivet on January 6. Five of the team's next six games will be contested on the road, highlighted by a game inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Trine squares off against Alma College on January 10 and Albion College on January 13, then faces Adrian College in the only home game during that stretch on January 17. January 20 and 24 sees the Thunder meet Hope College and Calvin University in road contests. The Flying Dutch won the MIAA Tournament Championship and Knights the regular season title one season ago. On January 28, Trine and Adrian will do battle at the home of the Detroit Pistons, a very cool opportunity to see both the Detroit Pistons versus Oklahoma City Thunder and Thunder versus the Bulldogs.
Five of the final six games of the calendar are home games for Trine as they conclude the regular season. They host Hope on January 31, Alma on February 3, and Albion on February 7 before hitting the road one final time at Olivet on February 10. The team will celebrate their senior class on February 14 against Kalamazoo before wrapping up the regular season versus Calvin on February 17.
