ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine men's golf team will open the season next Thursday when the team hosts the Ken Venturi Invitational on the home links of Zollner Golf Course.
The Thunder returns three all-conference golfers from last season, two of whom earned recognition as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. Trine placed second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the fall last season to earn the chance to win an automatic-qualifying berth to the national championships. The team ended up with a second-place finish in the conference's spring qualifier, though Trine earned its best average score ever in the spring tournament.
All-MIAA First Team performer Cody Knapp (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) leads the team's returners. Knapp led the Thunder with an average score of 74.7 in MIAA rounds in the fall. The senior has improved his average score by six strokes since his freshman campaign.
Corey Bremigan (Russia, Ohio/Russia) and Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) each return after earning All-MIAA Second Team honors last season. Each golfer also earned All-America scholar recognition. Bremigan medaled in two MIAA Jamborees last fall, while Dwyer earned the team's best average score over the course of the entire season.
Austin Tevlin (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) was a player who stepped into the Thunder playing rotation in the spring and saw some success. The team will have to replace graduate Brandon Snell's spot in the rotation.
