ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team had a superb first day at the Irish Hills Invitational at the Hills of Lenawee Golf Course, shooting a first round 298 and are tied for second place.
Kenyon College is just one stroke ahead of the Thunder with a day one 297.
Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] was the low man for Trine on the day with a 1-over 72. Lowney is in fourth-place on the individual leaderboard and went 2-under on par-5 holes.
Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] put up a round of 74 on Friday and Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] wrapped up play with a 75. Brockie also finds himself in the top 10, tied for sixth.
The final scoring members for the Thunder were Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] with a 77 and Nick Phillips [Yorktown, Ind. / Mincie Central] at 87.
The Trine "B" team of Carter Rang [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Concordia Lutheran], Nathaniel Acres [Fishers, Ind. / Fishers], Kyler Rod [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton], Charlie Eriksen [Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood] and Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale] is also competing at Adrian College this weekend. Rang led the way out of that group with a 76.
The Thunder also had two individual participants in Sean Hogan [Goshen, Ind. / NorthWood] and Colin Crumrine [Newark, Ohio / Newark Catholic] each shooting 83's.
The 36-hole event concludes tomorrow morning with the Thunder looking to claim their first team victory away from their home course.
