DULUTH, Minn. – Freshman Justin Meers (St. Charles, Mo.) has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Men's Offensive Player of the Week following a strong performance against MSOE.
It is the fourth time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has earned player of the week honors, the second that the award has gone to an offensive player. It is the first time in his career that Meers had taken home the award.
Trine went 1-0-1 at MSOE this past weekend, securing the program's first berth in the Harris Cup Playoffs. Meers netted crucial goals in both games to lead the team to the record.
On Friday, Meers came up with the Thunder's lone goal of the contest. That goal brought the team back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game at one. The 1-1 score would become the final as the teams stalemated each other through the rest of the game.
Then on Saturday, Meers finished the contest with two goals. The first started off the scoring in the contest coming in the tenth minute of the contest. The second helped to ice the game giving the team a 3-1 lead at the halfway point of the third period.
The Thunder will finish off the regular season with a pair of contests against nationally-ranked Adrian College. The home series will determine the final seed of both teams as they head into the first round of the Harris Cup Playoffs.
