CINCINNATI, Ohio – Twelve different members of the Trine University men's lacrosse team scored as the Thunder cruised to a dominating 22-1 victory over their hosts from Mount St. Joseph University.
The team wasted little time getting their first goal. Jack Konicek won the opening faceoff of the game also getting the first groundball. The win led to a Patrick Doyle goal, the first of his three in the contest, all coming in the first quarter.
After the quick start the next five minutes were quiet. Trine scored their next three goals in the stretch from ten minutes to eight minutes remaining in the quarter. Mitchell Voglewede scored the first of the stretch. The second goal of the game would eventually end up being the game winner.
The Thunder scored seven goals in the first and second period, taking a 14-0 lead into the intermission. The Lions scored their lone goal of the game out of the break, before Trine finished off with eight straight for the final score of 22-1.
Riley Fischer led the team with four goals in the contest with Will Gonia joining Doyle in each scoring three. Chris Molnar, Aiden Theobald and Mason Slazyk each recorded two goals to round out the multi-goal scorers. Also scoring for the team were Peter Piccillo, Sean Kohloff, Aidan Kubiak, JJ Boos and Jackson Bell.
The Thunder improve to 2-1 following the victory. They will travel to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering for their next match. That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 2.
